Since Bilbao was founded in the 13th Century by Don Diego López de Haro it has never stopped evolving. Bilbao will surprise you with four well distinctive areas or icons that describe quite well the evolution of Bilbao in time: The colourful streets of the Old Town (with the majority of the bars), The River that brings its past industrial times, El Ensanche (where the finance and shopping take place) and the unbelievable Guggenheim museum designed by the acclaimed architect Frank Gehry.
